Breathe with Me at Sinclair Haus

As a part of Tempo! Alle Zeit der Welt (in English: Tempo! All the time in the world), Jeppe Hein presented Breathe with Me. The exhibition explored man-made notions of time in an industrialized world, and how the accelerating speed at which information, goods, and fossil fuels are produced is a detriment to the world’s well-being and deeply personal relationships with one’s own time. As an antidote to this unstoppable speed pace, Tempo! considers mindfulness, leisure, and rest.

Breathe with Me offered an opportunity to explore what happens when we slow down and pay attention to our breath, and to connect with the larger world, helping create an understanding of our responsibility for one another. The installation stretched from the courtyard of the museum, up the staircase and to the first floor. Three times a week, throughout the duration of Tempo!, visitors had the opportunity to paint their breath.
