Today I Feel Like ...
The school project

Similar to Breathe with Me, I initially painted Today I feel like … - a spontaneous self-portrait of how I am feeling right here and now - as part of my watercolour diary. Then I began to ask visitors of my solo exhibitions to join in painting their face of how they feel like on the museum’s walls too.

In 2021 it became obvious that the corona pandemic had been an exceedingly difficult time for children and times continue to be intense for young people. For this reason, I developed a workshop especially for children that combines Breathe with Me and Today I feel like … to be facilitated in kindergartens and schools.

Each child receives a box with a brush, paint and paper that they can also take home to paint with their family and friends. Guided by their teachers or educators, children will do a breathing exercise followed by a face painting that depicts their feelings in that moment. Each painting will help them to listen to their inner voice and experience their body and emotions in a new way.

Today I Feel Like... is a celebration of how we can feel more connected to each other and the world around us by first finding that connection in ourselves. With this project, I hope to inspire children to use the experience of being part of Today I feel like … in their everyday life: Be aware of their breath, to use it to calm down and take notice of how they really feel.
